Stardom - Nagoya Golden Fight (10/9/2023)

2. Saori Anou vs. AZM

Excellent match here between a pair of fast technicians. They made the most of the opportunity after the original tag title match booking fell through. Billed as a ★5 STAR GP special, it captured the fast-paced, digest match formula of the tournament. It was filled with novel and quick moves, with little downtime. This match wouldn't look out of place in AZM's second High Speed reign, and was one of the best singles of Saori Anou's career. ****

3. UWF Rules: Syuri vs. Mina Shirakawa

The best modern UWF rules match I have ever seen. At least in joshi pro-wrestling. A showcase of the full spectrum this style offers without feeling self-indulgent--grappling, strikes, submissions, positioning, defense. With enough emotional depth to make it captivating beyond just its technical aspects. They made effective use of the point system as well, with Syuri having the early advantage and Mina Shirakawa mounting a comeback. I really enjoy Chanmina's heavy low kick! ****

5. Wonder of Championship: MIRAI (c) vs. Momo Watanabe

Young wrestlers channeling Kensuke Sasaki and Shinya Hashimoto in a gotsugotsu match! Remarkable that MIRAI and Brapi could convey such a feeling at their age. It felt like they were fighting with something to prove after losing the semi-main slot. A hard-fought heavyweight bout, with superb technique and clashing lariats and kicks. The decisive power of MIRAI's lariat has increased considerably and Brapi's bumping for it was wonderful. ****1/4

6. KAIRI, Mayu Iwatani & Nanae Takahashi vs. Hazuki, Koguma & Saya Iida

I never imagined that KAIRI's farewell match would be so intense and emotional. I was reminded all over again why KAIRI is such a remarkable talent. Her ability to add dimension to a match and scale her opponents to her magnitude is amazing. She was able to get a rare emotion out of Hazuki and awaken the sleeping bear Koguma's latent potential. Saya Iida also seemed to level up when in the ring with her. Splendid farewell in the midst of high-octane trios action. ****1/4

7. World of Stardom Championship: Tam Nakano (c) vs. Natsuko Tora

This match underscored the significance of seconds in joshi pro-wrestling. There was such a dangerous and strange ambiance with no one out there to provide support and encouragement. The wrestling itself was equally imbued with a sense of danger. As the match reached its climax, it ventured into genuinely harrowing moments such as an avalanche Death Valley Bomb from Natsuko Tora that landed at a scary angle, and a VSD from Tam Nakano looked rough for both wrestlers. It was a physically and emotionally demanding main event, with a classic good and evil dynamic that could be understood based on appearances alone. ****
