TJPW - CITY CIRCUIT WINTER (2/18/2023)

5. International Princess Championship: Miu Watanabe (c) vs. Janai Kai

Miu's third title defense. Janai's kicks were strong and sounded heavy. Her upkicks from the back were an amazing display of flexibility and lower body strength. She also showed some good grappling skills with a scary looking modified dragon sleeper. Miu's pace, rhythm and facial expressions were great as always, making for another top-notch performance from the champion. Miu's sense of hopelessness when countered as she was making a breakthrough added a lot to such a short title match. Her comeback felt a bit easy after struggling so much, but the match was still dense and exciting. I would have liked to have seen maybe 5 more minutes of it though. ***3/4

6. Miyu Yamashita & Yuki Arai vs. Aja Kong & Moka Miyamoto

Was this supposed to be a prelude to the upcoming match between Yuki Arai and Aja Kong? It felt more like Arai was feuding with Moka as it unfolded. Miyu took on Aja and hit the veteran with her big moves. However, I was hoping to see more interaction between Arai and Aja Kong. Arai targeting Aja's weak knees with low kicks, as Akira Maeda famously did against Andre the Giant, would have been a nice bit of drama. Aja's knees are well-known to be fragile, and it's a missed opportunity for someone to not exploit that weakness during a match. The match was a little too short and seemed unfocused on what it was supposed to be building up. **3/4
