Stardom - Dream Queendom 2023 (12/29/2023)

6. NJPW STRONG Women's Championship: Giulia (c) vs. Megan Bayne

Classic "Japanese ace versus monster gaijin" matchup that blended old-school vibes with advanced modern flair. Giulia's style, focused on receiving and harmonizing with her opponent, brought out Megan Bayne's MAX potential. Throughout the 17-minute duration, an aura of "what will happen next" had me on the edge of my seat. Megan's moonsault was breathtaking and beyond imagination. An astonishing title match that far exceeded expectations and truly embodied the "STRONG" banner. ****1/2

7. Wonder of Stardom Championship: MIRAI (c) vs. Saori Anou

I would have never expected Saori Anou and MIRAI to work so well together, but that might just be the genius of Saori Anou, who "empathizes" with her opponent. Each of their matches has been exceptional, with this taking the crown. The gradual rebuilding after the previous match was a smart move, quietly drawing in a burned out crowd with subtle tension. The escalating buildup, punctuated by Anou's subtle brilliance, led to a satisfying and explosive climax that had Ryogoku hooked. I'm so happy that Saori Anou came to Stardom and has finally been able to show her true potential as a singles competitor. ****1/2

8. World of Stardom Championship (decision): Maika vs. Suzu Suzuki

Amidst all the mismanagement and injuries that have plagued Stardom this year, these two fought tenaciously and emerged as the protagonists of the second cour. This was a thrilling title main event that could have gone either way, but I'm glad that Maika was finally able to win the belt to give the fans a good ending after a hard year. Suzu Suzuki standing in the main event of Sumo Hall at the age of 21 alone indicates her high potential as a wrestler, and she has a bright future despite her loss. ****1/4
