Stardom - 5STAR Grand Prix 2022 (9/11/2022)

5. Blue Stars: Saya Kamitani vs. Suzu Suzuki

I never imagined Saya Kamitani and Suzu Suzuki would be competing against each other in the same ring. Stardom and Ice Ribbon supernovas who achieved big things early in their careers. It was a rush of dangerous techniques, wild facials and big bumps. This was an auspicious first encounter and I'm eagerly awaiting a rematch. ****

7. Blue Stars: Mayu Iwatani vs. Giulia

This was the best Mayu Iwatani has looked since her last match with Giulia in January. While their match earlier this year was full-throttle for 30-minutes, this had more of an ebb and flow, with slow building between the high-impact exchanges and head-drops. Their movements together naturally become more refined with each match, but they also manage to keep things fresh and interesting. ****1/4

8. Artist of Stardom Championship: Saki Kashima, Starlight Kid & Momo Watanabe vs. Hanan, Hazuki & Koguma

The usual fun and action packed Artist defense. I like how Kashima, Watanabe and now Kid have had their individual feuds influence the action of the match. This one was focused on Kid and Hanan of Stardom's 7th generation, with Momo-Hazuki bonus content. ***1/2

9. Goddesses of Stardom Championship: Tam Nakano & Natsupoi (c) vs. MIRAI & Ami Sohrei

This was a great first defense for TamPoi, against an optimal tag team to establish a new title reign. MIRAI & Ami have been growing as individual wrestlers as well as tag partners and were a formidable force for Tam & Natsupoi to overcome. Even in action-packed tag matches like this, MIRAI still manages to fit in fine details. ****
